'Ki Ashay Bandhi Khelaghar' is one of most popular Bengali songs by Kishore Kumar. The song is also deeply associated to Bengali culture as it is played at almost every marquee during the Durga puja across the state. The reprised version by Kumar Sanu from Kaushik Ganguly’s Kishore Kumar Junior was recently launched at a promotional event.
Ganguly’s upcoming film is based on the life of a Kishore Konthi, who makes his career singing only Kishore Kumar’s songs, played by Prosenjit Chatterjee.
In the song, the close family and friends of the protagonist request him to sing Kishore Kumar's most popular song. As he sings, the visuals offer glimpses of his mundane family life; consisting his wife, played by Aparajita Adhya, and his son, played by Rwitobroto Mukherjee.
The snippets, bringing alive the simplicity of the singer’s life, go well with the song as it speaks of finding little joys of life amidst sorrows and lows. The three of them are often shown enjoying their vacation in Shantiniketan. The singer broods in loneliness, gets nervous before his show and is comforted by his wife. But his mind is never off the tunes of his master, Kishore Kumar, to whom he makes his offerings everyday.
From the song, it is apparent that Sanu’s voice is ageing. However, the song is not about its perfection, but rather pronounces the devotion to the legend. Perhaps, no other singer could have done more justice to the song.
The song also reveals Chatterjee’s full avatar for the first time. His appearance in the film was so far hidden, even in the teaser. The glimpse shows the amount of transformation the actor has gone through for the role.
Kishore Kumar Junior is slated to be released on 12 October.
