Actor Ali Fazal, who recently finished filming Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Milan Talkies (2019), has been announced as an ambassador of the international children's charity, Smile Train. The actor joins longtime ambassador Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the campaign to raise awareness for the charity's mission and help more children. The Fanney Khan (2018) actress became the first goodwill ambassador back in 2009.
The charity's goal and vision is to "ensure every child born with a cleft can lead a full and productive life". With their free cleft repair surgery to young children in need, they are able to transform the lives of those who cannot eat, breathe or speak properly due to their cleft lip or palate.
The Victoria & Abdul (2017) star was happy to join Smile Train to give back in any way possible. He inaugurated the charity's newest project at Mumbai's SRCC Children's Hospital. Fazal met with young children whose lives had changed due to the surgeries.
“If you google cleft surgery, you’ll understand the depth and body of work Smile Train alone has put into this awareness. It is a correctable surgery. And I am so proud to be the new ambassador leading this along with a wonderful team of Smile Train India and Global," Fazal said of the charity's work.
Speaking of the over 35,000 children affected in India alone, the actor said, "This can be treated if they have the information. The organisation has tied up with many hospitals over the years. I hope to keep this machinery working as it has been with immaculate efficiency and power. There are great many issues to be solved on many humanitarian levels. This is one. And when we all do our bits and our parts, the world is a better place."
