Singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi got engaged to mimcry artiste AN Anoop at a simple function held at her residence.

Vijayalakshmi, who is visually challenged, enjoys a huge fan following in Tamil Nadu as well as in Kerala.

She has sung songs for films like Toss (2007), Vellakkara Durai (2014), Kaadu (2014), Yennamo Yedho (2014), Cuckoo (2014), 10 Endradhukkulla (2015), Velainnu Vanthutta Vellakaran (2016) and Theri (2016), among others.

Sources close to the singer said only close family members and friends were present for the engagement ceremony. The wedding will be held on 22 October.

It may be recalled that Vijayalakshmi was previously engaged to Santosh, a Bahrain-based man. The engagement was later called off.

According to Vijayalakshmi, she broke off that engagement because Santosh had insisted that she would have to quit her career in music after marriage and take up a teaching job instead.

The singer, an expert veena player, also has a film being made on her life.

Interestingly, the person playing her character in the biopic is Hanan Hamid, the girl who sold fish to support her studies. The film is being directed by Vijayakumar.
