Veteran actress Reema Lagoo died suddenly of a cardiac attack last year. But she had already completed shooting for actor Hrishikesh Joshi’s directorial debut Home Sweet Home. The film is now slated for release on 28 September and its first trailer is just out.
Home Sweet Home is about an elderly couple (Lagoo and Mohan Joshi), who stay alone in an old flat in Mumbai. They keep making digs at each other, but deep down they share immense love and respect.
One day they learn from realtor friend Sopanrao (Hrishikesh Joshi) that their flat is now worth Rs3.5 crore. Lagoo’s character starts having the urge to sell the flat and relocate.
It is difficult for her, with her dodgy knee, to climb the stairs to their flat daily. The building, an old one, does not have a lift and the staircase is the only option.
But Joshi's character is dead-set against the idea. He is emotionally attached to the house. Their daughter (Spruha Joshi) is on the mother’s side.
The trailer gives you a sense that the film is a light-hearted affair despite such a serious conflict between the two primary characters. The trailer suggests that Hrishikesh Joshi has handled the subject well though this is his first film as director.
The background score plays a big part in keeping things light. The story is a smart mix of the tale of an ageing couple and the subject of old houses in Mumbai slowly going extinct with the rush for redevelopment.
The chemistry between the lead couple is reminiscent of the ageing couple in Tu Tithe Mee (1998), played by Mohan Joshi himself and Suhas Joshi, who was seen recently in Bogda (2018).
Home Sweet Home also features a string of prominent artistes like Vibhawari Deshpande, Prasad Oak, Sumeet Raghvan and Mrunal Kulkarni in the supporting cast.
