After the super success of the horror comedy Stree (2019) that's still scaring audiences in the theatres, producer Dinesh Vijan and actor Rajkummar Rao have moved on their next — the comedy Made In China (2019) directed by Mikhil Musale.

Starring Rajkummar, Mouni Roy and Boman Irani, the production began filming today (11 September) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The pair play a married couple living in the city. Rajkummar is a struggling businessman who is encouraged by his wife, Roy, to do business in China.

The quirky comedy is due to be released on 15 August 2019, an ambitious release date for the film. In the past, films with large ensemble casts like Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006) or blockbusters like  Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Singham Returns (2014) and have been released on Independence Day. Of course, film with patriotic themes like Chak De! India (2007) and Rustom (2016) have reigned supreme on the holiday.

It is a big step up for both producer and actor to launch their comedy on that big movie day. Made In China (2019) is director Musale's Hindi film debut. He previously directed the Gujarati film Wrong Side Raju (2016), produced by Phantom Films.

Made In China (2019) is also expected to shoot in China. The country has been a new lucrative market for Hindi films and the makers will likely take advantage of that fact.
