After earning dismal numbers in the first weekend, JP Dutta’s Paltan and Sajid Ali’s Laila Majnu were expected to fail the first Monday test. This is exactly what has happened as both films made only Rs60 lakh and Rs20 lakh on Monday, respectively, as per figures shared by Boxofficeindia.com.
Paltan is made at an estimated budget of Rs25 crore. The film has so far collected a mere Rs5.60 crore. Dutta’s comeback as a director after 12 years is far from being memorable for any good reason. It features Sonu Sood, Jackie Shroff, Luv Sinha, Arjun Rampal, among others.
Starring Avinash Tiwari and Tripti Dimri, Laila Majnu has fared even worse. The film’s total so far stands at Rs1.75 crore.
Manoj Bajpayee-starrer Gali Guleiyan was also released on the same day. While the film, directed by Dipesh Jain, has been appreciated critically, its box numbers are too low to report.
Hollywood horror flick The Nun, which was also released on Friday in India, had a fall in numbers yesterday. But the film, directed by Corin Hardy, has already earned a good number of Rs30.75 crore in India overall so far. The film has earned more than four times the combined number of Paltan and Laila Majnu.
Amar Kaushik’s Stree, on the other hand, continued its good run even on its second Monday. The film, starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor and Pankaj Tripathi, made Rs3.25 crore yesterday. The film has so far earned an impressive Rs84.16 crore.
Does Stree's success mean Rajkummar Rao is now a commercially viable star?
