Amar Kaushik's first feature film Stree has not only proved to be a superhit, but it could well set a new milestone for actors Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi.
The horror comedy bagged Rs21.5 crore nett in it second weekend, taking its domestic business so far to Rs81 crore, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The film was made at a modest budget of Rs20 crore and released on 1,800 screens across India.
Does Stree's success mean Rajkummar Rao is now a commercially viable star?
The Hindi films released last week — Paltan and Laila Majnu — have failed to make an impact on the box office.
Stree had an impressive first week as well, collecting Rs59.31 crore nett.
Stree is currently ahead of this year's Alia Bhatt-starrer Raazi, which made Rs78 crore nett in 10 days. After bagging Rs4.50 crore nett on its second Friday, Stree enjoyed a good run over the weekend as it bagged Rs7.75 crore nett and Rs9.50 crore nett on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

The other film to make an impression over the weekend was the Hollywood horror film The Nun, which made a fine Rs28 crore nett in its opening weekend.
Come Friday, there are a couple of Hindi films lined up for release, Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu, and Shree Narayan Singh's Batti Gul Meter Chalu, starring Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor.
If either of these films does not get a good start, that, too, might work in favour of Stree. The film is already the highest grosser for both Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi.
Rohit Shetty's multi-starrer Golmaal Again is the most successful film in the horror-comedy genre, having collected Rs202.5 crore nett in domestic business. But that film had several big stars led by Ajay Devgn.
