Film music has often sought inspiration from folk songs from different lands. Recently, Savvy Gupta reprised 'Sujan Majhi Re' song for Hoichoi Unlimited by Aniket Chattopadhyay. And, now, Subhadeep Mitra from Jam8 has come up with a new rendition to the popular song 'Shundori Komola Nache' for Baba Yadav’s upcoming action flick Villain.
'Shundori Komola' is set in a zamindari house, where Durga Puja is celebrated following the old traditions of decorations and rituals, rather than concentrating on creative themes. The song features lead actors Ankush Hazra and Mimi Chakraborty, dancing away in front of the idol of the goddess.
The lyrics, written by Sanjeev Tiwari, describe the protagonist’s lady love as she gets dressed and adorned in traditional clothing and how her beauty rings the bell for celebrations. Tiwari has used English words along with words mostly associated with the culture of Durga Puja to give the song a contemporary feel.
'Shundori Komola' is definitely a song for a celebration, but it hardly establishes the connection with the Durga Puja. The fast and peppy number sung by Arman Malik and Antara Mitra is sure to encourage the audience to tap their feet, but the song more appears as an attempt to present’s Yadav’s finesse as a choreographer. Both the actors look good on screen; however, the visuals lack the spontaneity that could have enhanced the essence of the Puja celebrations better.
Villain is slated for release on 12 October.
