Akshay Kumar files complaint against morphed video of him commenting on Tanushree-Nana controversy

The #MeToo movement is gaining momentum in India, with victims sharing their horror stories and accusing film personalities, journalists and comedians for sexual misconduct. While some celebrities have chosen to not comment on the issue, many have spoken out in support of the victims and condemned harassment of women in workplace.

Recently a video of actor-producer Akshay Kumar made rounds on the internet that supposedly had him speaking on the Tanushree Dutta-Nana Patekar controversy. However, the actor has claimed that the video has been doctored.

He filed a complaint with the cyber crime cell at the Bandra-Kurla complex. The said video is no longer available on YouTube.

Hindustan Times, a daily, quoted a police official as saying, “The narrative of the video was edited in a way that it looks like Kumar is expressing his views on the Dutta-Patekar controversy, which he never did. We tried to search the video on YouTube, but could not get it; probably it was blocked or removed. We have asked him to produce a copy of the video. The inquiry is going on."

Akshay is known for raising social issues like menstrual hygiene and the ills of open defecation. He has also helped many women learn martial arts as a measure of self-defense. The actor recently returned from the Rajasthan after shooting Housefull 4, that also stars Patekar.

Patekar has been accused by Dutta of sexual harassment on the sets of the film Horn OK Pleassss in 2008. The actor as scheduled to hold a press conference to present his side of the story today (8 October), but the event was cancelled.
