Jalebi song 'Mera Pyar Tera Pyar': Fine melody but nothing novel coming from Arijit Singh

Penned by Rashmi Virag, the nostalgic track has Aisha (Rhea Chakraborty) and Dev (Varun Mitra) go down the memory lane.

Jalebi is a story of a young couple who get separated just as quickly as they fell in love. Destiny though brings them face to face again in the 'Mera Pyar Tera Pyar' song. Here we see Aisha (Rhea Chakraborty) meet her former husband Dev (Varun Mitra) while on a train journey.

The opening sequence of the song does seem to suggest that this is a meet that has been planned. In that anxious moment, she gets nostalgic, reminiscing the good times they had together.

They do see each other in the train's corridor. Dev is carrying a cake and Aisha is walking, lost in her thoughts. If we recall the train sequence from the trailer, Aisha believes the woman with Dev in the train is his wife. Is that a misunderstanding or has Dev really moved on?

This song though is one that has the former lovers go down memory lane.

Penned by Rashmi Virag, this is a fine, simple and poetic melody. It is backed by a soft soothing score by Jeet Gannguli. Such soft, nostalgic numbers are often the forte of Arijit Singh.

While 'Mera Pyar Tera Pyar' is a decent number, it is not a 'Phir Le Aaya' from Barfi (2012) or a 'Tum Hi Ho' from Aashiqui 2 (2013). Though Singh is good in this song in Singh's voice is beginning to sound monotonous. However, there is still something to like about 'Mera Pyar Tera Pyar'.

Jalebi is set to be released on 12 October.
