Never be regionalist, Shaan tells audience after being hit by a paper ball in Assam

Singer Shaan is one of the most calm and composed people in the Hindi film industry. However, the singer lost his cool while performing at a show in Guwahati's Sarusajai stadium on Sunday (28th October).

Shaan got angry after an unruly member of the audience hurled a paper ball at him while he was performing. 

The news agency ANI reported that a few from the audience were upset with the singer for singing a Bengali song.

“Assam: Stones and paper balls were pelted at singer Shaan during a concert in Guwahati's Sarusajai stadium yesterday after he sang a Bengali song. 'Please respect the performer', Shaan told the crowd,” ANI tweeted. 

The singer soon took to Twitter to deny the 'exaggerated' reportage and said only one member of the audience threw a paper ball at the stage. “Complete lies! One paper ticket folded up was thrown on stage by one person after vigorously gesturing and shouting to stop singing. That’s all,” he wrote. 

A video from the event corroborated Shaan's version. The singer lost his composure after a paper ball was shot at him. He stopped his performance and addressed the crowd, asking it not to make language a political issue and to refrain from throwing things at an artiste.

“Don’t make a political issue out of it, whoever you are. Never throw things on an artiste. Learn to respect a performer. If you don’t like it, go away," he said to the audience.

The singer went on to say that he was suffering from high fever and was under antibiotics, yet he came out to perform for the audience. He wrapped up the event soon after.

“I have come from far," Shaan said. "I have travelled across the world, sung in many languages, but if you only want to hear Assamese songs, (pauses) if I sing another song, if this is the behaviour then let’s do this song only. Let’s do it but please remember, never be regionalist. We are one country, India is one, Assam is not alone."
