The much-awaited teaser of Kedarnath is out.
It appears to be a Hindu-Muslim love story set in the backdrop of the 2013 Kedarnath floods. The 'Love is a pilgrimage' tagline seems apt. Kedarnath marks the debut of actor Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan. The story and dialogues are penned by Kanika Dhillon.
It is common to find Muslim men working as pithoos at Hindu holy sites. Sushant Singh Rajput plays Mansoor, a pithoo. Pithoos are men who work at religious sites on mountain tops, carrying pilgrims on wooden carriages tied to their backs. In the latest poster released earlier today Mansoor is seen carrying Sara's character Mukku on his back.
The teaser begins with the catastrophic scenes of floods, as Sara's character Mukku battles to stay afloat. She is saved by Mansoor. From here on, the story is predictable as the duo fall in love. Religion seems to be obvious point of conflict in this relationship.
Later in the teaser, an upset Mukku is seen made to take a dip into the Ganga by a man. The man here appears to be Nitish Bhardwaj, and presumably, he is playing father to Sara's character.
The story may not be refreshing, but director Abhishek Kapoor succeeds in churning out a visually appealing teaser. At nearly one-minute-forty-seconds, it is a bit too long to be called a teaser.
Sara has a tremendous screen presence, and makes a good on-screen partner to Rajput. The teaser rides on the fine visuals, VFX and the gripping background score. Perhaps the most defining image is that of Rajput clinging on to the horn of Nandi idol to save himself from drowning.
Kapoor’s film has had a tough journey so far, running into controversies with former producer KriArj Entertainment. Kapoor will hope that his film will have a smooth release.
Kedarnath will be out in theatres on 7 December.
