First look of R Madhavan's Nambi Narayanan biopic Rocketry: The Nambi Effect out

The actor is currently working on a film based on the life of former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was falsely charged with espionage in 1996.

R Madhavan walking out of the Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer, Chanda Mama Door Ke, has not put an end to his rocket science ambitions. The actor released the first look of his upcoming biopic on the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) scientist, Nambi Narayanan today.

In the teaser, Madhavan can be seen in a grizzled avatar that closely resembles images of the ISRO scientist Narayanan from archive images. Describing the film in the teaser, the actor says, "Not caring about some stories is the same as not caring about your nation."

The actor also hints that 'once you see this story, hear this story, it will be hard to stay quiet', using the metaphor of the three monkeys. He shared the teaser in Hindi, Tamil and English.

Former ISRO scientist Nambi was among the leading figures in ISRO  and was in charge of the cryogenics technology. He was among the pioneers in the use of liquid fuel during the initial days of Indian rocket science.

However, in 1996, Nambi was charged with espionage for allegedly sharing state secrets and placed under arrest for over 50 days. The charges against the scientist were dismissed in 1996 by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and later by the Supreme Court in 1998.

In 2018, a three judge bench led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra awarded Nambi an amount of Rs50 lakh for the 'mental cruelty' he had suffered through the years.

Madhavan is likely to play the scientist in the film titled Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, which will be directed by National Award winning filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan. The actor is likely to play the scientist from the ages of 27 to 75. The trailer of the film will be released on 31 October.

The film will mark Madhavan's first big project since the 2017 hit, Vikram Vedha.
