Music director Indraadip Dasgupta announced his second directorial Apu, starring National Award-winning director Kaushik Ganguly, Bidipta Chakraborty, Anirban Bhattacharya and Rudranil Ghosh. The film will go on the floors from January 2019.

Apu is a love story and it revolves around a father-daughter relationship. The director stated that he is yet to confirm two more female leads for the film. “Kaushik is playing the father, but we are yet to sign on the actor who will play his daughter. The girl gets married to Anirban’s character and they have a girl child. We will see two father daughter relationships running parallel throughout the film. The child to play Anirban’s daughter has not been finalised as well,” Dasgupta told The Times Of India.

Chakraborty will play the wife of Ganguly and the latter’s strenuous relationship with his daughter will remain at the core of the film. Ghosh, on the other hand, will be seen as a tour guide, playing a crucial role in changing the dynamics of the relationships. “The film deals with the way we perceive things differently because of age and character traits; how this leads to tension and make people judgemental,” added the director.

Dasgupta’s debut film Kedara, also starring Ganguly and Ghosh is due to be released next year. The film depicts the transformation in a man’s life after a chair is brought home. Kedara has also been selected in the competition section of Kolkata International Film Festival this year.
