The commercially successful filmmaker duo Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy have announced their upcoming project Belashuru.

Belashuru is a family drama that will soon go on the floors. More than a sequel, the title suggests the film be the prequel to Shiboprosad and Nandita’s Belaseshe, the highest grossing film of 2015. The directors have confirmed that the film will have a completely new story, only with a few familiar actors from Belaseshe.

The film will revolve around an elderly couple played by Soumitra Chatterjee and Swatilekha Sengupta and explore various shades of relationships within a family.

“It is neither a sequel nor a prequel to Belaseshe. Even Haami was not a sequel of Ramdhanu; we just borrowed a few characters from it. Same is the case with Belashuru, which talks about modern day relationship issues,” said the directors to The Times Of India.

Although, Belaseshe also dealt with the issues of marital life, the directors emphasized that Belashuru will portray how the growth of love within a typical Bengali household helps hold the family together with a fresh perspective. “It’s important to be in love and let that love grow over time. The story doesn’t teach you to fall in love, but to celebrate love in whichever form you can,” added the directors.

The ensemble cast of the film also includes Rituparna Sengupta, Aparajita Adhya, Indrani Dutta, Shankar Chakravarty, Kharaj Mukherjee, Manami Ghosh and Pradip Bhattacharya.

The film is slated to go on the floors on 30 November.
