China is open to content oriented films from India, and these are not limited to just big ticket Aamir Khan or Salman Khan films. Recently, Rani Mukerji-starrer Hichki was released in China.
Directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, Hichki was released in China on 2 October. The film has so far grossed $8.07 [approximately Rs59.29 crore at the current exchange] in eight days in China, as reported by Chinese trade portal entgroup.cn.

The film had a limited release of around 975 screens in India and it had made around Rs46.18 crore nett in Indian business. Hichki was made at a budget of Rs20 crore. It collected nearly Rs60 crore in eight days in China. It occupies the fifth spot at the Chinese box office. It was released in over 38,000 screens in China. After eight days, the number of screens have been dropped to 13,808.
Hichki is based on Peter Werner’s Front of the Class (2008), that was adapted from Brad Cohen's book Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had.
In the Hindi remake, Malhotra changed the protagonist to a female teacher with Naina Mathur suffering from Tourette Syndrome. She overcomes her speech deficiency to become a teacher.
