Director Nandita Das has said that she would continue supporting the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment even as her father has been accused of misconduct by an entrepreneur.
The Manto (2018) director is one of the people who has actively lent support to the #MeToo campaign so far.
Entrepreneur Nisha Bora has accused artiste Jatin Das of molesting her 14 years ago. Jatin has denied the allegations, or even having ever met Bora. Bora has alleged that 14 years ago, the painter was invited to dine at her father-in-law’s house. Bora claimed that he asked if she could assist him for a few days. Bora was happy to join him as she admired his work. The woman claimed that Jatin molested her at his Khidki village studio.
Nandita reiterated her support to the campaign despite her father being accused of molestation. The director penned a post on Facebook about the same.
“As a strong supporter of the #MeToo movement, I want to reiterate that I will continue to add my voice to it, despite the disturbing allegations made against my father, which he has categorically denied. I have maintained from the very start that this is the time we all need to listen so that women (and men) feel safe to speak up,” wrote Nandita.
The filmmaker, however, subtly hinted that one shouldn’t misuse the #MeToo movement.
“At the same time, it is also important to be sure about allegations so as not to dilute the movement.
"I am touched by the number of people - friends and strangers - who are concerned and are trusting my integrity. I do believe the truth will prevail. And that is all I have to say on this matter,” added Nandita.
