Vijay Krishna Acharya's Thugs Of Hindostan is managing a miracle simply for bringing together Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan for the first time. In their first song, 'Vashmalle', the two stars launch into a dance-off with a very wacky Ajay-Atul track providing the atmosphere.
The song is set in Khudabaksh's (Amitabh Bachchan) cave den, with a gang of rowdy, dishevelled pirates providing the background. While Bachchan is the more regal of the two, with his presence looming large on the entire party, it is Khan's mischievous Firangi who pours some style into it.
While Khan is not known for his dance moves, he does bring some wacky expressions to the table. While the song, hopefully a teaser, is just a minute long, it provides some insight into the hedonistic, carefree lifestyles of the pirates in Thugs Of Hindostan.
The song by Ajay-Atul has an Indian subtext flowing through it. The lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya are lyrical, and veering towards a more chaste Hindi. Despite that, the lyricist has not shied away from originating a few words including 'Vashmalle', the signature of the song.
Ajay-Atul give the song enough meat with its percussion heavy rhythm to make it foot-tapping. Sukhwinder Singh and Vishal Dadlani's voices add the personality required by the song.
In all, the song certainly captures the element of freedom that Thugs Of Hindostan promises.
Thugs Of Hindostan will be released on 8 November 2018.
