Despite his last sequel, Vishwaroopam 2, failing at the box office, Kamal Haasan is set to embark on another sequel to a hit film. The actor announced the project, Thevar Magan 2, on a chat show, Kelvikenna Bathil.
The actor-director is also working on another sequel, Indian 2, with Shankar. The film is expected to go on floors by December, or early in January 2019. The announcements come as a surprise as Haasan was expected to take some time off filmmaking after his shift into politics.
Thevar Magan (1992) was a cult hit which saw Haasan team up with Bharathan, to write the film. Featuring Haasan, Sivaji Ganeshan, Gowthami, and Revathy, the film went on to become a cult classic. It won five national awards, and was also India's official entry to the Oscars that year.
The sequel would be the third such franchise after Vishwaroopam 2 and Indian 2. The actor is also working on another film, Sabash Naidu, a spinoff featuring his character from the film, Dasavatharam (2008).
