Lawyers of writer-producer Vinta Nanda have announced that she will fight the defamation case filed against her by actor Alok Nath's wife, Anshu, in court.

Speaking out in the ongoing #MeToo movement, the writer of the famed tele-serial Tara, had stated that Alok Nath, the lead actor of the serial, had allegedly raped and molestated her around 20 years ago.

Following the accusation, Nath's wife had filed a defamation case against Nanda, registering an FIR with the Amboli police in Andheri, Mumbai.

In the statement by Nanda's lawyer, Dhruti M Kapadia, the writer-producer's legal team has stated that they have filed a complaint with CINTAA (Cine and Television Artist's Association), Screenwriter's Association (SWA) and Indian Film and Television Director's Association (IFTDA).

Of these, CINTAA and IFTDA have already sent notices to Alok Nath. The statement further reveals that the actor is expected to answer the notice by CINTAA today (15 October), and IFTDA by Thursday (18 October). Nanda's legal team is also set to meet with SWA.

The statement also read, "My client will not be intimidated by threats and defamation suits which are primarily meant to delay and distract from the gravity of the allegations."

Earlier, Ashu Nath's lawyer, Ashok Saraogi was quoted by The Indian Express, a daily, as saying, "There is a due process of law and it is not right to just name someone on social media and harm his reputation. Hence, a letter was given to the Amboli police on Friday (12 October) to register a case under sections 499 and 500 of the IPC that deal with defamation."

Nanda is among five women who have accused Alok Nath of allegedly sexually harassing them on different occassions.
