Tumbbad's Pankaj Kumar wins Best Cinematography award at Sitges festival


The Spanish film festival highlights and honours fantasy and horror films.

The 51st edition of the Sitges Film Festival has announced its awards and among the winners is the recently released Tumbbad (2018), co-directed by Rahi Anil Barve and Adesh Prasad.

Pankaj Kumar won the award for Best Cinematography for his stunning work on the genre-bending Tumbbad. The award was decided upon by an international jury made up of Carolina Bang, Piers Bizony, Anaïs Emery, Fernando Navarro and John Ajvide Lindqvist.

Tumbbad's co-directors, along with creative director Anand Gandhi, were awarded with Focus Asia award.

Gaspar Noé's Climax (2018) won Best Film, while Mandy (2018) director Panos Cosmatos was adjudged Best Director. Andrea Riseborough won the Best Actress award for Nancy (2018) and Hasan Ma’juni won the Best Actor award for the Iranian comedy Pig (2018).

Tumbbad was the only Indian film to be honoured at the festival which was held in the coastal town of Sitges, near Barcelona, from 4 to 14 October.
