Director Subhash Kapoor dropped from Ekta Kapoor's web-series The Verdict


Earlier, T-Series decided to sack Kapoor from the Gulshan Kumar biopic after they were made aware of the ongoing proceedings of sexual allegations against the director.

After being let go from the Gulshan Kumar biopic, Mogul, director Subhash Kapoor has been dropped from the Alt Balaji web-series, The Verdict: State Vs Nanavati, as well. Kapoor was the showrunner on the 10-episode drama -series due to stream on the Alt Balaji digital platform.

According to a report in the Mid-Day, a tabloid, a source on the project stated that "after Ekta came on board as one of the core committee members of the Producers' Guild of India that aims to address the issue of sexual harassment at workplace, it was brought to her notice that Subhash has an ongoing case against him. Ekta immediately decided to remove him from the show."

"Subhash was integral to the system, but she has decided to support the survivor. Till the criminal proceedings on Subhash continue, Balaji won't work with him," the source added.

Ekta was added on a special committee formed by the Producers' Guild of India to take on complaints of sexual harrassment at workplace. Headed by Sneha Rajani, other members on the committee are Kiran Rao, Fazila Allana, Rohan Sippy, Jyoti Deshpande, Apoorva Mehta, Kulmeet Makkar, Madhu Bhojwani, Vijay Singh, Priti Shahani, and Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Based on the infamous 1959 court case, KM Nanavati vs State of Maharashtra, the series stars Sumeet Vyas, Angad Bedi, Manav Paul, Jim Sarbh, Kubbra Sait and Elli Avrram. The series is directed by Shashant Shah. A new showrunner has not been announced as yet.

After he was let go from the Gulshan Kumar biopic, Subhash responded to his firing by telling the Indian Express, a daily, "I understand and respect Aamir Khan’s and Kiran Rao’s decision. Since matter is subjudice, I intend to prove my innocence in the court of law." Khan and Rao, who were co-producing the film had decided to step away from the project after allegations against Subhash surfaced.
