Over the last decade or so, Marathi cinema has been regularly churning out films based in the rural areas of Maharashtra. Some of the prominent ones include, Valu (2008), Gabhricha Paus (2009), Deool (2011), Masala (2012), Shala (2012), Fandry (2014) and Sairat (2016). The majority of these films have been critically and commercially successful.
First-time director Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti’s Naal looks like yet another well-made film on rural lives. The film's teaser was released today (11 October).
Naal is jointly produced by Zee Studios and filmmaker Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, who has previously helmed Fandry and Sairat.
The teaser of Naal is more like an introduction to the village where the story takes place. It beautifully captures the picturesque village, especially the water bodies. The pleasant background music complement the visuals. The village is shown through the journey of a flower which is almost grabbed by a child.
Before directing this film, Yakkanti worked as a cinematographer on well-known Marathi and Hindi films like, Mirch (2010), Deool (2011), Nautanki Saala! (2013), Highway: Ek Selfie Aarpar (2015), Manjule’s short film An Essay Of The Rain (2017) and a few others.
Naal is all set to be released on 16 November.
