Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane’s Sacred Games was well received on Netflix. Now, rival Amazon Prime Video is bracing for a dark crime thriller of its own. Titled Mirzapur, the web-series is created by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna, and will be directed by Gurmeet Singh.
In the teaser released by Amazon Prime Video, Pankaj Tripathi plays an arms smuggler Kaleen Bhaiya. He uses carpets to hide his weapons, hence the name Kaleen meaning carpets. Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh is famous for its carpets, and this web-series shows how the arms smuggler safely brushes illegally manufactured weapons under the carpet.
In the world of guns, there is bound to be bloodshed. Without revealing the look of Kaleen Bhaiya, the makers cleverly reveal the nature of the man. The sight of a body wrapped in a kaleen sends a stern message that once you join him, you’re bound for life and traitors are not forgiven.
It’s a teaser in every sense. However, it does not have the same intensity as the Sacred Games teaser. It’s the talent of Tripathi alone that hooks you to the teaser.
Speaking to Cinestaan.com on Monday evening, the actor said that he was leaving for Lucknow to shoot for Mirzapur. The shoot will take place over a period of 40 days.
