Films based on detective stories have not always worked in Hindi cinema. Recent example include Chatur Singh Two star (2011). Sachin P Karande's Jack & Dil ventures into a similar territory as the comic detective on hire for Arbaaz Khan's doubtful husband.
The trailer is colourful, and tries to be comic, with Amit Sadh playing the bumbling, eccentric detective. However, the actor seems to have gone a little overboard making the scenes a little too hard to believe.
As the doubtful husband who puts a detective on his wife's tail, Khan is stoic to the extent of appearing wooden in the trailer. As the husband waits for news, the detective falls for the straight-shooting pretty wife, played by Sonal Chauhan. Therein lies the twist in the tale.
The trailer is shot in the beautiful locales of Goa, but just does not capture the natural colour of it. It is not helped by the unimpressive acting of both leads. Considering that it is a story about a detective, it has little to support in terms of dialogues or wit. The little there is reminds one of the 1990s form of comedy, which makes the trailer look a bit outdated.
The film is directed by Sachin P Karande, and will be released on 2 November.
