Krishna Raj Kapoor, wife of actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor, passes away at 87


The matriarch of the Kapoor family passed away on Monday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Legendary actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor's wife, Krishna Raj Kapoor, passed away on Monday (1 October) morning due to a cardiac arrest. She was 87. 

Speaking to PTI, a news agency, actor Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news. He said, "My mother passed away at 5am today due to cardiac arrest...old age was another factor. We are deeply saddened by her demise." 

Married to Raj Kapoor in May 1946, Krishna Raj Kapoor remained the steadfast matriarch of the Kapoor family till recent years. She is survived by five children - sons Rishi, Rajiv and Randhir Kapoor, and daughter Ritu Nanda.

While Rishi Kapoor is currently in the United States for medical treatment, his daughter, and Krishna Raj Kapoor's granddaughter, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni shared a touching picture of the family's recent trip to Paris with the matriarch.

The film industry was quick to post their condolences for the Kapoor family on social media. Actress Raveena Tandon shared her sorrow at the news saying 'an era passes away'. 

Actor Anupam Kher, another close friend of the family, posted his comisserations to the family as well. 

Actor Aamir Khan tweeted his comisserations to the family, calling Krishna Raj Kapoor 'an institution in living life'. 

 

The family is likely to hold the funeral later today at the Chembur crematorium.
