Scriptwriter-turned-director Abhimanyu Mukherjee announced his upcoming film starring Ritwick Chakraborty and Srabanti Chatterjee in the lead. The comedy deals with the unique concept of exploring the crisis of two characters who are obsessed with their hairstyles.
In the film, Chakraborty plays Alokesh, an office employee who keeps experimenting with stylish hairdos. He comes from a middle-class family and is engaged to Meena, played by Chatterjee. Meena, admires people who can pull of gorgeous hairstyles to such an extent that she loses interest for Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni once he chops his hair off.
The twist in the film occurs when Alokesh tries out a new hair oil and starts losing his hair drastically. According to the director, the characters’ obsession with their hairstyle is a metaphor for people’s growing fascination with vanity.
"Of course, it is a personal battle for Alokesh but there are social issues woven into the narrative. The film questions our vanity and how we perceive ourselves. There is also a love story in the film,” elaborated the director in an interview with t2, a supplementary publication of The Telegraph.
Chakraborty, who is supposed to don different kinds of looks with highlighted hair, said, “It’s a great idea that can be turned into a really entertaining film.”
Mukherjee, who reportedly wrote the script keeping the actor in mind, said, “Both the actors were surprised by the idea and both loved the script.” However, Chakraborty was not quite surprised to be chosen for the particular character.
Chatterjee, who has also worked in Mukherjee’s last romantic drama Piya Re (2018), expressed her excitement to work with Chakraborty for the first time. The film will go on the floors later in this month. The title of the film has not been decided yet.
