Simbu and filmmaker Sundar C have joined hands for the first time for the upcoming Tamil remake of the Telugu blockbuster Atharintiki Daaredi (2013).

Being produced by Lyca Productions, the makers on the occasion of Diwali on Tuesday unveiled the film's first look along with the title, which is Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven.

In the poster, Simbu is seen mimicking a Michael Jackson dance move. The poster is quite similar to the first poster of Atharintiki Daaredi.

With the poster, the makers also confirmed that the film will hit the screens for Pongal 2019, which means it will lock horns with superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta and Ajith’s Viswasam at the box office.

Released in 2013, Atharintiki Daaredi was the last blockbuster in actor-politician Pawan Kalyan’s career. The story follows a grandson, played by Pawan Kalyan, who promises his grandfather to help him reconcile his relationship with his estranged daughter.

Soon after the film's release, rumours made the rounds that Vijay might star in the Tamil remake. But Lyca Productions confirmed a few months ago that it had signed Simbu for the titular role. The film also stars Megha Akash, Catherine Tresa and Mahat Raghavendra in important roles.

The project marks the first time Simbu and Sundar C, who is on the verge of wrapping up the project, are collaborating. The film’s first schedule was shot in Georgia in the erstwhile Soviet Union where the team canned the introduction song of Simbu along with a couple of scenes.

Ramya Krishnan reprises the role of Nadiya from the original. Upon completing work on this project, Simbu will commence shooting for Venkat Prabhu’s Maanaadu, a political thriller.
