On the eve of her big wedding on 2 December, actress Priyanka Chopra has been announced as the face on the cover of the next issue of the American Vogue magazine in January 2019. The magazine has also carried a detailed profile into the relationship of singer Nick Jonas and Chopra, and how the events unfolded.
While the interview covers a lot of details like Chopra's rise to stardom in the west, her childhood struggles against discrimination in the USA, it also sheds light on how Jonas and Chopra went from their first text in 2016 to a big, splashy wedding.
Chopra reveals in the interview that it was Jonas who sent the first text to the actress' co-star on Quantico, Graham Rogers. "Priyanka.Is.Wow," wrote Nick reportedly. This led to a series of tweets between them, starting from 'September 8, 2016', the actress points out in the interview. However, Chopra alerted Jonas that her team reads the tweets, and shared her number.
It was at the Vanity Fair's Oscar party in February 2017 that Nick truly went all out. "And I put my drink down,” Jonas tells me, “get on one knee — this is in front of a bunch of people — and I say, ‘You’re real. Where have you been all my life?’ Like, loud," the interview quotes Jonas saying.
Chopra's appearance on the Vogue cover is also the first time an Indian actress has been the face of the American magazine.
Soon, the two were out on a first date which ended at Chopra's New York apartment, with mother Madhu Chopra present. Naturally, Jonas ended it with a polite 'back pat'. "She’s still upset about that," the singer reveals.
Speaking of their time at the MET Gala in 2017, Joe Jonas says, "He’s sitting on the floor. And Sophie and I were just laughing at him. We’re like, look at this little smitten, drunk kid right now."
Nick also revealed that by the third date, he was convinced of his relationship with Chopra. The singer proposed to the Quantico actress at a family get together in Crete in mid-2018. "I got down on one knee, again, and I said: Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?," says Nick which was followed by a 45-second pause before Chopra finally agreed.
While Indians have already taken to Nick, the couple's wedding at the Umaid Bhavan Palace has been out of reach for any mediapersons. However, Chopra promises it will be a big one. As she says in the interview, "People will need vacations after this wedding."
The couple is expected to take part in two traditional ceremonies, Hindu and Christian. The Christian ceremony will be officiated by Nick's father on 2 December.
