In 2016, it was announced that actress Nayanthara would join hands with Billa 2 (2012) director Chakri Toleti for Kolayuthir Kaalam, a slasher thriller loosely based on Mike Flanagan’s Hush.

The first look poster of the film was released in October 2016 and it built great expectations among fans, but since then, there’s been no update on the project.

Rumours even made the rounds that the project was shelved. But the makers soon clarified that there were no updates because they were getting the project commissioned to be made in Hindi as well. Tamannaah Bhatia and Prabhudeva, along with Bhumika Chawla were subsequently roped in for the Hindi version which was titled Khamoshi.

On Friday, the makers confirmed that long delayed Kolayuthir Kaalam will finally be released in January 2019 and they even released a new poster to make the announcement.

However, there’s no update on whether the Hindi version will also have a simultaneous release. In the film, Nayanthara is rumoured to be playing a mute and deaf author who has to save herself from a psycho killer. The entire story of the film is rumoured to take place inside a house in the woods.

Well-known composer Yuvan Shankar Raja turned producer with this project in association with Vashu Bhagnani of Pooja Entertainment.

With blockbusters such as Kolamaavu Kokila and Imaikkaa Nodigal this year to her credit, Nayanthara currently awaits the release of Airaa, in which she plays dual roles. She also has Chiranjeevi’s magnum opus Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and a project with Sivakarthikeyan in her kitty. Recently, it was announced that she has been signed as the leading lady of Vijay’s next film with Atlee.
