It is not often that even with a host of new films, one continues to talk about the holdover releases.
Sanjai Mishra’s Ekkees Tareekh: Shubh Muhurat and Jaaved Jaaferi’s horror flick Lupt were among the films that were released on Friday (2 November).
Unfortunately, all the new films proved to be a disappointment at the box office with earnings too low to be reported.
The bad performances of the new films, however, came as good news for the holdover releases.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s Badhaai Ho continued to be the audience's favourite and collected Rs2.25 crore nett on its third Friday. The Junglee Pictures' social comedy is looking set to top the Rs100 crore mark this weekend. It has earned Rs95.14 crore nett so far.
Made at an estimated budget of Rs30 crore, Badhaai Ho was released on 2,000 screens across India.
Gauravv Chawla's Baazaar, which was released last week (26 October), made Rs1 crore nett on its second Friday. The Nikkhil Advani and T-Series co-produced business crime drama starring Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte has made Rs16.70 crore nett so far.
The film is likely to be a flop for it has barely recovered half its cost from the box office. Made at an estimated budget of Rs40 crore, Baazaar was released on over 2,000 screens across India.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s dark comedy Andhadhun, which released on 5 October, added another Rs40 lakh to its kitty on its fifth Friday at the box office. The Viacom1 Motion Pictures and Matchbox Films co-production has so far bagged Rs64.91 crore nett.
Made at an estimated budget of Rs25 crore, Andhadhun had opened on a mere 800 screens across India.
The trade will now be keenly looking at the big Diwali release, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan's Thugs Of Hindostan, to make a big impact. Thugs Of Hindostan is set to be released on 8 November.
