Back in September, writer-director Tahira Kashyap revealed that she had been diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer.
Three months down the line, Kashyap has shared that her cancer has upgraded to stage 1A and she is midway through her chemotherapy treatments.
In a long emotional post, Kashyap wrote, “That’s what you do when cancer shows up. You show it the way out! It is a tough phase to be in, but then I would have never known my own strength, which is inherent in each one of us, and which we come to know off when tested.”
She stated the cancer had been detected early, but she was going to keep on fighting. “This post is dedicated to my journey where half the battle is won and the other half I want to fight with each of you who is enduring it. Be resilient, be strong, we shall overcome and how!,” she wrote.
The 35-year-old thanked her best friend Komal Sehgal, her husband, actor Ayushmann Khurrana, and her parents for taking her journey in the right spirit and for not giving up on her. She also named producers Atul Kasbekar, Tanuj Garg, Shanti Sivaram, and Shruti Venkatraman for supporting her on her first film.

“Personally I owe it to my best friend @komal20to77 husband @ayushmannk parents @kashyap6480 @yajankashyap. This bit is taken for granted but when professionally you are supported and still look dependable your resilience to fight becomes stronger. For this I owe it to @atulkasbekar @tanuj.garg @findingshanti @shrutiv11 who too were shocked when they heard the news but didn’t give up and still lay bet on this bruised but not broken horse. Gratitude”
Kashyap is in pre-production on her first film, co-produced by T-Series and Ellipsis Entertainment, which is due to go on floors early next year. The cast has not been announced yet. She previously wrote and directed Toffee (2017), a short film on the friendship between two young girls, Tanya and Ritu in 1990s Jalandhar, Punjab.
