Actor Dev Patel and actress Anne Hathaway, along with Tina Fey, Andy Garcia, John Slattery, Catherine Keener, Cristin Milioti, Brandon Victor Dixon, Olivia Cooke, Andrew Scott, Julia Garner, Shea Whigham, Gary Carr, Sofia Boutella, and John Gallagher, Jr, will all be seen in Amazon's new anthology series, Modern Love. After launching the Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner's multi-starrer series, The Romanoffs, this October, Modern Love is the latest anthology series for the streaming platform.
Modern Love is based on the popular New York Times column launched in October 2004 about love, relationships, loss and heartbreaks. The weekly podcast on the stories was started in 2014. The latest Amazon series, Homecoming, starring Julia Roberts, is based on fictional podcast series created by Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg in 2016.
Filmmaker John Carney will take on the role of showrunner on Modern Love. He is also writing and directing an episode along with actress Emmy Rossum, Sharon Horgan and Tom Hall. Rossum is due to direct an episode scripted by the late Audrey Wells, while Hall will write and direct his episode. Horgan will direct the episodee starring Tina Fey and John Slattery.
“It’s like I woke up in the actor candy store,” showrunner Carney told Variety.com. “We’ve managed to assemble a dream cast of my favourite actors. It’s a testament to the reach of the original column and of how, now more than ever, love is the only certainty.”
