Actor-filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar plays a cricket coach in Netflix’s upcoming original series Selection Day.
The web-series is an adaptation of author Aravind Adiga’s novel of the same name.
Selection Day tells the story of two brothers, Manju Kumar (Mohammad Samad) and Radha Kumar (Yash Dholye). They hail from a small village. Their father (Rajesh Tailang) is obsessed with making both of them cricketers who would go on to play for India. That is his only mission in life.
The father brings his sons to Mumbai and gets them admitted at a cricket coaching centre run by Tommy sir (Manjrekar). The coach is eager to produce someone of the calibre of Donald Bradman or Sunil Gavaskar under his watch.
The father keeps a keen eye on the progress of Manju and Radha. He isn’t happy with the way his sons are handled and gets into a tangle with Tommy sir. The kids face other obstacles as well.
The trailer of the web-series, which was released yesterday, gives an idea that the story has been shot well. The character sketches are clear from the promo itself. The camerawork in long shots is also not to be missed.
Also starring Ratna Pathak Shah and Akshay Oberoi, Selection Day will be streamed on Netflix from 28 December. Watch the trailer below.
