Sarvam Thaala Mayam teaser: GV Prakash rises as dreamer musician, but it is Rahman's music that stands out

Caste, music and dreams come together in the teaser of Rajiv Menon's upcoming film, Sarvam Thaala Mayam.

The film features GV Prakash Kumar, Aparna Balamurali and Nedumudi Venu in key roles. The film also marks the return of Rajiv Menon to direction after a gap of 18 years. His last was Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000).

The teaser captures the life of a dreaming young man, Peter Johnson (GV Prakash), whose greatest joy and passion is music. He hangs around with bands, plays music with street dwellers, in cemeteries and before film releases.

His parents, like all parents, worry about his education. But Peter's greatest ambition is to learn the mridangam from the classical musician Vembu Iyer (Venu). The veteran, however, refuses to teach him, for the barriers of caste and religion stand in the way. 

Despite that, Peter is adamant. "My life, soul and body throb with rhythm," he replies. 

GV Prakash, who is himself a singer and popular film music composer, looks sincere and fits the bill of a passionate musician. His young looks make him fit for the character, though how much acting ability he can bring to the table remains to be seen.

The music, as always with a Rajiv Menon film, is the first thing that hits the ear. Rahman brings in diifferent levels of percussion that thrum up the initial burst of the trailer. It builds the expectation and curiosity about the film and its music. 

The film was premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival in October, and is scheduled for release in Tamil and Telugu on 28 December.
