Shanker Raman and Pawan Kumar have joined director Deepa Mehta on Netflix's upcoming project, Leila.

Mehta will also be the creative director of the series, featuring Huma Qureshi in the lead.

Netflix had announced the show in February. Urmi Juvekar, screenwriter for Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008) and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2014) will be the showrunner for the series.

The first season, with six episodes, will revolve around the story of Leila, a mother in search of her daughter. The series is based on novelist Prayaag Akbar's eponymous novel.

In addition to Qureshi, the series will feature Siddharth in a leading role.

Earlier this month, Netflix had announced a slate of nine original films as well as several series targeting its Indian audience. These include the second season of the hugely popular Sacred Games. Sujoy Ghosh's Typewriter, and the Emraan Hashmi starrer The Bard of Blood.

There is also an upcoming series as the prequel to the popular Baahubali series.
