Zero song: The charming 'Mere Naam Tu' is proof that pint-sized Shah Rukh Khan is still the King

Composed by Ajay-Atul, and sung by Abhay Jodhapurkar, the song captures the signature charm and romance of Khan as he woos Anushka Sharma's scientist.

Since the trailer of Aanand L Rai's Zero (2018) released on the star's birthday, audiences have been waiting to see Shah Rukh Khan take on a very different role of a midget in love. However, the first song from the film, 'Mere Naam Tu', captures the star in his element as the romantic, charming hero and proves that pint-sized he might be, but he still remains Shah Rukh Khan.

The song is picturised as Khan's character Bauaa Singh gatecrashes a posh evening in honour of Anushka Sharma's paraplegic scientist. Not one to be undone by the event or the occasion, Bauaa goes on to charm the intellectual scientist in a very filmi style. From hanging off chandeliers to a full violin quartet, and colours raining down from ceilings, the song has elements that can only be described as cinematic.

Khan is charming and completely in his element as he tries to impress his love. Anushka Sharma displays an adorable vulnerability through her character as she experiences someone wooing her for the first time. It is these moments that make the song memorable.

Composed by Ajay-Atul, the song has a very impressive orchestral music. From the buildup of the string quartet and piano that slowly leads into the percussion of drums, the song has a grand scale about it that matches its visuals. Ajay-Atul have always impressed in their use of the orchestra, without losing the harmony of their compositions. It is also refreshing to have a score that does not rely too much on the percussion or lets it overpower

The lyrics by Irshad Kamil are just accurate to describe the promise of constancy that Bauaa offers. Abhay Jodhapurkar's vocals are a refreshing turn and flow melodiously with the composition.

Zero is directed by Aanand L Rai, and features Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on 21 December.
