Actress-director Revathy hits out at Mohanlal for '#MeToo is a fad' comment

Reacting to Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's comments calling the #MeToo campaign 'a fad', actress-director Revathy wrote in a Twitter post, "How do we bring some degree of sensitivity in such people?"

While Revathy did not name Mohanlal, the tweet underlined his statement, '#MeToo movement is a fad'. Criticizing the statement by a 'renowned actor', she added, "Like Anjali Menon says, the people who have just arrived from Mars have no clue what it means to get abused, what it takes to call out, and how this can bring about change!"

On Monday (19 November), Mohanlal, speaking on the eve of a charity performance in Dubai, said, "Everyone knows everything that has happened. There is not much problem right now in the Malayalam film industry. Just don’t say things and create problems. You cannot believe that #MeToo is a movement. It is a fad, it is changing into a fashion. Anything new, it will be alive for a few days. It can happen everywhere, not only in films, everywhere." 

To make things worse, the actor said that "maybe men should come out with #MeToo movement of their own".

Revathy is one of the founding members of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), established to safeguard the rights of women in the Southern film industries after an actress was abducted and molested while returning from a shooting in 2017.

Since then, the collective has been at loggerheads with the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA), now headed by Mohanlal, over the re-admission of Dileep, prime accused in the molestation case.
