Popular Tamil film stars like Vijay, Suriya, Sivakarthikeyan and Vijay Sethupathi have come forward to donate to the cyclone Gaja relief fund. Nearly a dozen districts across Tamil Nadu have faced the wrath of cyclone Gaja, that has already claimed 50 lives.
On Monday (19 November), Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced a sum of Rs1,000 crore for carrying out relief works in affected areas.
Actor Suriya, on behalf of his father Sivakumar, brother Karthi and wife Jyotika, donated Rs50 lakh through various NGOs. A statement released by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment said it was heart-wrenching to see the Cauvery delta being laid waste and said it was everyone's duty to save the region.
Basking in the success of his latest film '96, actor Vijay Sethupathi announced a contribution of Rs25 lakh to the relief fund, which will be spent on buying rechargeable torches and saplings for those whose farms have been destroyed.
Actor Sivakarthikeyan donated Rs10 lakh, in addition to Rs10 lakh worth of relief materials.
On Tuesday (20 November), the makers of Jyotika’s Kaatrin Mozhi announced that they will donate Rs2 per ticket sold to the chief minister's relief fund.
Actor Vijay has donated amounts ranging from Rs2 lakh to Rs4.5 lakh to nine bank accounts of the heads of his fan clubs to help those affected by the cyclone. He has so far donated a sum of Rs40 lakh.
