Kedarnath song 'Qaafirana': Arijit Singh, Nikhita Gandhi bring Sushant-Sara romantic journey to life

Composed by Amit Trivedi, 'Qaafirana' has lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

Kedarnath's controversies aside, the film's music is turning out to be a pleasant experience. After the devotional 'Namo Namo' and the more vibrant 'Sweetheart', the makers of the film have released the next single, 'Qaafirana'.

Composed by Amit Trivedi, the song captures the journey of the two characters in love. Shot beautifully, the song depicts the initial hesitation, the growing warmth, and the love that blossoms between the two.

The song also portrays the gap in class between Sushant Singh Rajput's Mansoor and Sara Ali Khan's Mukku. Where Mukku is a brat, having grown up in a privileged section, Mansoor is hesitant of interacting with her due to his position as a 'pithoo'.

This class and religious difference was emphasized in the trailer as the reason why Mukku's father, played by Nitish Bharadwaj, decides to separate them.

A nice touch is the two different scenes of the couple sharing tea. While Mansoor is hesitant and shy in the first instance, he accepts the cup in the second instance to a sweet reaction.

The song is a pleasant melody that flows evenly with the help of Trivedi's composition. Understated and simply constructed, Trivedi's music builds from the initial orchestration of piano and violins into the rhythm of the percussion. The violins continue to form a subtle layer stitching the melody together.

Arijit Singh's voice adds to the soothing texture of the music, with Nikhita Gandhi bringing in the verve required to add another dimension to the track.

The lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya are reflective of the serene valleys of Uttarakhand, and use the imagery of meetings, destination points well to describe the building relationship.

Kedarnath is directed by Abhishek Kapoor, and is set for release in theatres on 7 December 2018.
