Aamir Khan's success rate at the Chinese box office has prompted the makers of Thugs Of Hindostan to target the market on their star's name. The film is expected to be released in China on 14 December, with the production E Star Films taking over the theatrical rights of the Yash Raj Films production.
Thugs Of Hindostan, which features Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Katrina Kaif, is scheduled for a worldwide release on 8 November. However, this does not include China.
Firstpost.com quoted a source suggesting that the theatrical rights for the film have been purchased by E Star films, who also distributed the two Baahubali films in China.
The report also suggests that the buying price of the period film, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, is likely to be 'around $15-20 million (Rs110 to Rs147 crore)'.
The high pricing is likely to be fuelled by the success of Khan's previous films at the Chinese box office. Dangal (2016), Secret Superstar (2017) and 3 Idiots (2009) were among the highest earning Indian films in China. Dangal's total collection of over Rs1,000 crore in China still remains unbeaten.
Thugs Of Hindostan will also be the third Yash Raj Films project to make its entry into the Chinese markets after Sultan (2016) and Hichki (2018). The Rani Mukerji-starrer recently hit the Rs100 crore mark in China.
