Box office: Aani... Dr Kashinath Ghanekar collects Rs16 crore in 11 days


The Marathi film had clashed with big-ticket Hindi release Thugs Of Hindostan at the box office.

Director Abhijeet Shirish Deshpande’s Aani... Dr Kashinath Ghanekar is doing well at the box office. As per trade sources, the film has earned Rs15.90 crore nett in the 11 days since it was released on 8 November. 

The Marathi film had clashed with the big-ticket Hindi film Thugs Of Hindostan at the box office. However, the Vijay Krishna Acharya directorial, which saw Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan sharing space on the big screen for the first time, failed at the box office, with negative reviews and poor word-of-mouth publicity. 

Aani... Dr Kashinath Ghanekar made Rs10.40 crore in the first week. The film had a good second weekend as well as it made Rs5.50 crore in the period.

A biopic of the late Marathi theatre and film actor Kashinath Ghanekar, the film has Subodh Bhave playing the lead while Sumeet Raghvan essays the role of Dr Shriram Lagoo. Actress Sonali Kulkarni plays legendary actress Sulochana Latkar, affectionately known as Sulochana Didi. Nandita Dhuri and Vaidehi Parshurami play Ghanekar's first and second wives, respectively. 

Deshpande, who has previously written films like De Dhakka (2008), Mee Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy (2009) and Natsamrat: Asa Nat Hone Nahi (2016), made his directorial debut with Aani... Dr Kashinath Ghanekar.
