MeToo backlash: Union of dubbing artistes terminates Chinmayi Sripaada's membership

Well-known singer and dubbing artiste Chinmayi Sripaada had accused veteran lyricist Vairamuthu of sexual harassment last month.

Well-known singer and dubbing artiste Chinmayi Sripaada, who had accused veteran lyricist Vairamuthu of sexual harassment last month, revealed on Saturday that her membership of the dubbing artistes' union has been terminated.

The reason she has been given is that she had not paid the subscription fee for two years.

Chinmayi took to Twitter to announce that her membership had been terminated without even intimating her.

Chinmayi added that she had expected the first axe to go down from the dubbing union after she outed Vairamuthu and backed several allegations of sexual harassment against him.

On Twitter, Chinmayi wrote, “So given to understand that I have been terminated from the dubbing union. Which means I can no longer dub in Tamil films. The reason stated is that I haven’t paid ‘subscription fees’ for 2 years though this hasn’t stopped them from taking 10% off my dubbing income.”
