The film, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Katrina Kaif, had broken Hindi cinema's box office record on its first day.

Director Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Thugs Of Hindostan has become the Hindi cinema's highest box office opener by earning Rs50 crore on the day of its release, Thursday 8 November. However, the film saw a major drop in collections on its second day as it made only Rs28 crore, as per numbers shared by Boxofficeindia.com.
A drop in collections was expected to happen after Diwali, but the numbers come as a surprise.
Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015) previously held the record of being Hindi cinema's highest opener. The film had made Rs39.32 crore on day one. Like that of Thugs Of Hindostan, it’s earnings too had dropped on the second day, by 24%. Thugs Of Hindostan, however, has seen a fall of 45%.
As per trade sources, the film, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Katrina Kaif, is made on a budget of Rs300 crore, highest for a Hindi film so far.
The two day total of the film stands at only Rs78 crore, and therefore, Thugs Of Hindostan has a steep mountain to climb. It not only needs a good jump during the weekend, but will also need to see a consistent collection in the coming week.
There are no big films releasing next week. However, the negative word-of-mouth on the film is expected to affect its performance.
