The Madras high court today (9 May) dismissed a petition seeking a stay on the release of actor Vishal's upcoming film Irumbu Thirai on 11 May.
The petition, made by a person named Natarajan, claimed that the film featured the government's 'Digital India' campaign in a negative light and asked that a stay must be imposed until the scenes that relegate 'Digital India' are removed from the film.
However, the petition has been dismissed by the court.
Irumbu Thirai, directed by PS Mithran, features Vishal Krishna, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Arjun Sarja in the lead roles.
The film talks about the cons of going completely digital and depicts how cyber criminals can hack into phones and other electronic devices to steal data, both financial and personal. The film shows how criminals stalk, track and extract information about a person without his/her knowledge.
It may be recalled that a plea on similar grounds was filed against actor Vijay's Mersal in 2017 by the supporters of the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party immediately after the film was released. Mersal, however, went on to become a superhit.
