The poster of Deb Medhekar’s Bioscopewala showed a lot of promise with veteran actor Danny Denzongpa looking decades younger than his actual age of 70.
Now, the trailer of the film promises a heartwarming story. The film is an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s classic short story, Kabuliwala.
Bioscopewala is the story of Minnie Basu (Geetanjali Thapa) who comes to Afghanistan in search of Rehmat Khan (Danny Denzongpa), the man who 'taught her to tell stories', and lovingly called 'Bioscopewala'. All that the Minnie remembers is that Bioscopewala would visit India every year and treat her to some fascinating moving images with his bioscope, and the negatives.
Years later, she embarks on a journey to know what exactly happened to Khan, who suddenly disappeared from her life. Going by the trailer, the film touches upon the history of violence in Afghanistan.
While Thapa's character has her own complications, there are hints that Bioscopewala's character will be shrouded in mystery too. Was he affiliated to a terror group or was he a victim of one?
Both Thapa and Denzongpa seem to have given commendable performances. The film also stars Adil Hussain, Tisca Chopra, Brijendra Kala, among others.
Bioscopewala is all set to be released on 25 May.
