'Saramukh Roddur' song: Soft, soothing melody hits the crux of E Tumi Kemon Tumi

By describing the plight of the city, the lyrics allude to the state of the wife; how she turns her body and soul into a commodity to save the love of her life, how the city is robbing her of her own self.

Filmmaker Nehal Dutta, known for films like Angaar (2016), Khushboo (2013) and Palatak (2011), is ready with a new film, E Tumi Kemon Tumi.

The first song from the film, 'Saramukh Roddur', was released yesterday (8 May). While the film is being hailed for its unique subject, the song tries to summarise the story and introduce the bond between the protagonists.

The film narrates the tale of happily married couple, played by Priyanka Sarkar (of television series Chokher Baali and Anchol fame) and Sheikh Rezwan Rabbani, who are in for some tribulation when the husband is diagnosed with cancer. The doctors declare he can be saved with a treatment, albeit it will require a lot of money. The wife, seeing no other option, takes up being an escort. The twist in the plot lies when the husband discovers where all the money is coming from.

The song narrates the gradual submission of the wife to the profession. By describing the plight of the city, the lyrics allude to the state of the wife; how she turns her body and soul into a commodity to save the love of her life, how the city is robbing her of her own self.

Samarajit Bandyopadhyay's lyrics highlight the turmoil that Sarkar's character is going through, by contrasting her innocence with her desperation to earn money.

While Rupankar Bagchi's voice soothes and, at the same time, pierces one's heart, Tamal Chakraborty's soft music haunts the conscience.

Apart the from the lead actors, the film also features Laboni Sarkar, Kaushik Banerjee and Prasun Gayen in important roles.

The release date of the film has not been announced yet.
