Saif-Nawazuddin's Sacred Games to be launched on Netflix as 4-part thriller

The glimpse of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's menacing Ganesh Gaitonde being chased down by Saif Ali Khan's tough cop, Sartaj Singh, has already earned Sacred Games a comparison with Netflix's last big series, Narcos.

Sacred Games, based on Vikram Chandra's eponymous novel of the same name, is set to be launched on Netflix on 6 July 2018. In a recent interview with DNA, a daily, Khan revealed that the entire feature might arrive as a 4-part series.

"The series will be made in four parts as it’s a 1,000-page book and we’ve only got through one-third of it now. We begin shooting for the next season in September. Each season will have eight episodes, so overall, the series will have 32 episodes," Khan said.

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the story of Sacred Games is set against the backdrop of India's Partition in 1947 and tracks the rise of the crime lord and drug kingpin, Ganesh Gaitonde.

Initial reports had suggested that the book will be adapted into 8 episodes, with four each being directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap.

Khan, who was last seen in Kaalakaandi (2017), was quoted in the interview as saying that 'creativity' should define actors choosing roles on the digital medium. "It’s an opportunity for an actor to showcase their talent, but it’s gotta be slightly crazy. It has to be like a graphic novel, maybe a little more artistic than films and TV. Why else would you do it? Money isn’t the answer, creativity is."

Apart from Khan and Siddiqui, the series will also star Radhika Apte and Surveen Chawla in key roles.
