Actor Ranbir Kapoor, who is currently awaiting the release of his most-awaited film Sanju (2018), will be seen next in Shamshera. Kapoor is playing a dacoit in the film, which will be produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF) and directed by Karan Malhotra of Agneepath (2012) fame.

Speaking about the film, Kapoor said in an official statement, “Shamshera is exactly the film I was looking for. While growing up watching Hindi commercial cinema, I had an image of what a film hero should be doing. Shamshera allows me to do everything that I had imagined and it’s a very exciting project for me. Karan is going to take me completely out of my comfort zone and I’m looking forward to this challenge.”

The makers have said in the statement that the film will have remarkable action sequences. “This high-octane adventure is set in the heartland of India and will have jaw-dropping action sequences and a never-seen-before Ranbir Kapoor. Shamshera is set to go on the floors end of this year and shooting will be wrapped by mid-2019,” said the statement.

YRF also released an announcement video of the film. It shows Kapoor heading a team of dacoits.

Shamshera will be director Malhotra's next directorial after Brothers (2015). Both his previous films were under Karan Johar’s banner, Dharma Productions.

YRF already has a dacoit film in Thugs Of Hindostan, which stars Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. Thugs Of Hindostan will be released on 7 December. Actor Sushant Singh Rajput will also be seen in a dacoit drama titled, Sonchiriya.
