Sonam Kapoor wedding: Bride and groom share a dance at mehndi celebration

The big wedding of the year is here with Sonam Kapoor set to tie the knot with businessman Anand Ahuja on 8 May. The actress celebrated a lavish mehndi ceremony on Sunday (6 May), with the who's who of the Hindi film industry in attendance.

Keeping with the popular Punjabi wedding tradition, the event saw a lot of dancing, celebration, and fashion late into the Mumbai night.

Anil Kapoor's residence in Juhu had already been lit up and decorated for a week before the families announced the wedding.

Sonam's cousins Janhvi, Khushi, Arjun Kapoor, brother Harshvardhan Kapoor, industry buddies Karan Johar, Jacqueline Fernandez dazzled at the mehndi ceremony.

Sonam herself was the centre of attention, naturally, and seemed to enjoy the moment. Several pictures of the mehndi ceremony which emerged on social media feature the Pad Man (2018) actress enjoying the attention being showered on her.

But it was the all night dancing that literally took social media by a storm.

From the family to friends, there was no dearth of people rushing to the floor to celebrate. The bride-to-be herself took to the dance floor to get some moves in with her family. The 'Jhakaas' man Anil Kapoor got into the groove as well celebrating his daughter's big day.

The actor shook his leg to some of his iconic tracks like 'My Name Is Lakhan' from Ram Lakhan (1989), and 'Gallan Goodiyan' from the recent Dil Dhadakne Do (2015).

The previews of the wedding had already started to make rounds on the social media on Saturday (5 May).

In video snippets shared on the social media, artistes Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and filmmaker Karan Johar are seen rehearsing their steps for the sangeet ceremony, to be held today (7 May). Going by the posts, looks like Johar has taken on choreography duties and the stars seem to be enjoying shaking a leg on Salman Khan's 'Swag Se Swagat' number from Tiger Zinda Hai (2017).

However, they were not the only people spicing up the celebrations. Uncle Sanjay Kapoor shared a touching picture from his own wedding day, when a very young Sonam had lit up the dance floor. "20 years back when we danced at my wedding sonam Now I will be dancing at yours #timeflies," he wrote. 

Sonam's Veere Di Wedding co-star, Swara Bhasker, also took to the dance floor preparing for a performance for the sangeet ceremony. The actresses have been friends since appearing together in Raanjhanaa (2013).

The wedding is set to be solemnised on 8 May 2018 at Sonam's aunt's bungalow, Rockdale, in Bandra. While the ceremonies will end by 12.30pm, the family will celebrate with a fancy party at The Leela at 8pm. 

A week after her D-day, Sonam will flaunt her mehndi at the 71st Cannes Film Festival red carpet for L'oreal Paris on 14 May and 15 May.
